I've decided to change things up a little, and as a consequence of that, I am writing a brief status update to provide a little foreshadowing of what is to come. Over the last ~50 days of writing these articles, I think I've gained a bit of knowledge on how to be better at managing the formal side of the blog as well as its contents. Yesterday, when I was thinking about the future of this blog, I realised that there are some elements of the project that could be better. Starting next week, I've decided to tweak/enhance some elements of this blog. These tweaks basically boil down to three main points.
1. As of this week, I am discontinuing the weekly update series - when I looked back at all the weekly update posts, I quickly realised that these kinds of posts don't offer that much value to the reader or even to me. Not all weeks have a flashy ring to them - to be brusque about it, most of them consist of me slowly grinding at my tasks, sluggishly moving towards the goals I've set out for myself so, as a result of that, most of the time there is nothing THAT unique, distinct that is worth to write about. Nothing distinct to write about means that these update posts quickly turn into "this week I felt like x and accomplished y, here are my stats". Not how I envisaged it when I, at first, started writing these post format.
The last nail to the coffin of weekly updates was the progress bar I added to the side of the blog a couple days ago. It's more elegant, and it gets the job done in a simpler, yet more effective manner. To conclude, for the reasons mentioned above there is no real merit for me to be writing weekly update articles anymore. Instead, I can utilise my time to focus on writing more diverse and interesting content and make an update post only when something worth mentioning happens.
2. There will be some changes to the way I write book reviews - Currently, it feels like the reviews I produce are a bit non-dynamic. I have the same outline I go by with every book. To put it plainly, I talk about how various elements of the book impacted my reading experience. At first, this kind of approach seems like a good idea because I get a solid groundwork for comparing the books later down the road, but it's not that interesting for any novelty-seeking reader. After realising that, I came to the conclusion that these kinds of reviews should be less structured and talk more about the contents of an actual book, which is surely harder to successfully execute from the writer's point of view, but it might be more pleasant from the readers point of view, so I might as well give it a try.
Also, I know that I didn't do a book review for quite some time, but that's mainly because a) I wasn't particularly satisfied with the format I was using for these reviews and b) I am currently wrestling with an 800 pages long book that takes quite a bit of time to digest properly. The book itself is - at least to me - brilliant because it explores why humans Behave (that's the title of the book) in the way they do from a neurological, environmental, developmental and many other points of view. If it weren't for the overly technical parts of the book which take me ages to comprehend, I would've finished the book already. Robert Sapolsky is one hell of a thinker and writer.
3. I intend to start writing more diverse content - Experimenting is always fun, especially when it comes to writing. The auxiliary goal of this blog is, undoubtedly, to sharpen my writing skills and there is no better way to do it than to produce diverse content. I would like to write about topics intertwined with psychology, philosophy and futurism because those are the three topics I enjoy the most.
It will be interesting to see how the changed play themselves out in the light of upcoming weeks because I do not have a concrete idea of what types of topics I should write about and also, what form should such articles take but I guess I'll just experiment and see for myself what does and what doesn't work well with the format of this blog.
That would be it from be for now. As always, I hope that you are having a great day.
Cheers.
